Cloud Nine: The incredible 375/1 bet which saw lucky punter win £8,196 on Man City’s 9-0 mauling of Burton

Even though Manchester City are among England’s best teams and Burton Albion are not, few would have predicted the 9-0 mauling they managed on Wednesday night.
Then again, not everyone has the faith of City’s fans, who have seen their team come through more than most over the years.
And that may be why Phil Hampson decided to put on a staggering bet ahead of the game.
Phil Hampson won £8,196 after backing City to win 9-0 and Kevin De Bruyne to score first
The City supporter lumped £28.10 on City to win the game 9-0 and Kevin De Bruyne to be the first goalscorer.
He must have been delighted when he saw De Bruyne score the opener, a calm header into the back of the net, but even then he would not have foreseen what would come.
That would be why his girlfriend’s sister posted an image of the bet and wrote on Twitter: ‘When your sisters bf has this as a bet and only needs ONE more goal shaking’.
Riyad Mahrez scored the final goal of the game to confirm the 9-0 victory for City
Eventually, Riyad Mahrez wrapped up the brilliant display to almost guarantee City passage into the Carabao Cup final.
Almost as importantly, it won Hampson his huge bet. He pocketed £8,196.80 as a result.
He was quick to turn his attention to the players who provided it. He tweeted: ‘Thank you Kevin for the first goal and thank you Riyad for the last goal.’
City’s second leg against Burton will take place on January 23 at the Pirelli Stadium.
